Cola Braised Pork Belly

A sweet and savory home-style dish featuring tender pork belly braised in cola.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pork belly
  • 1 can cola (12oz)
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cooking wine
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 green onion
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 small piece cinnamon stick
  • 1 tbsp rock sugar

Steps

  1. Cut pork belly into 2-3cm cubes. Blanch in cold water, then drain.
  2. Heat oil in pan, melt rock sugar over low heat until amber color.
  3. Add pork cubes and stir-fry to coat with caramel.
  4. Add ginger, garlic, green onion, star anise and cinnamon, sauté until fragrant.
  5. Pour in light soy sauce, dark soy sauce and cooking wine, mix well.
  6. Add cola to cover pork, bring to boil then simmer for 40 minutes.
  7. Finally turn heat to high to reduce sauce until thickened.

Tips

Watch the caramelization carefully to avoid burning.
