
Steamed Pumpkin
An extremely simple homemade dessert or staple food that maximally preserves pumpkin's natural sweetness and nutrients with a soft, glutinous texture. A great choice for healthy eating.
Ingredients
- 300g pumpkin
- 1000ml water (for steamer)
Steps
- Wash the pumpkin skin and remove pulp and seeds
- Cut pumpkin into approximately 2cm thick slices
- Add 1000ml water to the steamer pot
- Arrange pumpkin slices evenly on a plate
- When water boils, place the plate with pumpkin into steamer
- Cover and steam over high heat for 15-20 minutes until pumpkin becomes soft
- Turn off heat and carefully remove the plate
Tips
Different pumpkin varieties vary in sweetness and texture. Mature pumpkins are usually sweeter. Pumpkin skin contains nutrients - you may steam with skin on if preferred, but wash thoroughly. Cooking time depends on size/thickness of pieces.
